Ways to Increase a Woman´s Fertility

There are positive and negative ways to affect fertility

A woman’s fertility can be affected by a number of lifestyle choices. There are several of these choices that can drastically decrease a woman’s chance of conceiving and can even reduce the chance of carrying a pregnancy full term. The chances of having healthy child also decrease a good deal if the wrong lifestyle choices are made. These activities can all be reduced or eliminated by the woman herself. Alcohol consumption, drug use, exercise, smoking and obesity are some of the most common things that a woman can control that will directly influence her fertility.

Smoking can cause fertility problems as well as increase the risks of miscarriages

Women’s fertility is drastically affected by smoking. The amount of eggs produced by the ovaries over a lifetime can be reduced as well as the quality of the eggs, which can lead to early menopause as a result of smoking. Aside from the effect smoking has on the ovaries themselves, fertilization problems can result from a reduced blood supply to the uterus and fallopian tubes as a result of chemicals found in cigarettes. There is a theory that a fertilized egg is prevented from implanting in the uterus lining which has an inadequate blood supply. The effects of smoking before and during pregnancy can cause premature births or miscarriages making them devastating if the egg is fertilized. The chances of a low birth weight baby is also drastically increased in women who smoke while pregnant.

Obesity can cause issues with fertility for a number of reasons

Women’s fertility is majorly impacted by obesity. It is three times more likely for women that have a body mass index of more than 30 to have drastically fewer chances of being fertilized as a result of problems with abnormal ovulation. A number of studies have supported the outcome even though the exact cause is not known. The chances of having the fetus develop outside the uterus, or an ectopic pregnancy, is greatly increased by obesity. The fallopian tubes are the most common place that fetal development occurs outside the uterus and these type of pregnancies almost always result in miscarriages. Babies are also four times more likely not to survive the first month when born to obese women.

The effects of alcohol on female fertility

Alcohol is associated with abnormal ovulation, majorly affecting fertility. The effects of even moderate alcohol consumption in women on both the fetus and the pregnancy have been well documented beyond the abnormal ovulation association. Technically not an issue with fertilization, a spontaneous abortion can result from alcohol being consumed the week after conception occurs. This often occurs before a woman realizes that she is pregnant. Alcohol does substantial damage to the fetus during pregnancy and often leads to birth defects, disorders and premature births. It is important to stop drinking before attempting to get pregnant because there can be negative effects from alcohol during early fetal development. Alcoholism and abuse is a serious condition for many young women who are of childbearing years. It is vital to get treatment prior to becoming pregnant.

Moderate exercise and proper fitness can improve female fertility

Increasing the chance of fertilization without use of medications is probably best done with moderate exercise. The health of both the ovaries and the uterus is increased through exercise by ensuring proper blood supply to these important areas. Excess fat and obesity will significantly reduce the chance for normal ovulation as previously mentioned. It is vital to mention that not having adequate body fat or excessive exercise can also result in poor ovulation, so women should also take care to exercise only in moderation. The key is improving cardiovascular health while proper levels of body fat are maintained.
